It just goes to show you how different certain countries are when a rock star goes to trial over a sex tape. That’s right, a man was charged for distributing his own homemade sex videos on the net. Jeez.
Nazril Ariel, 29, appeared at the closed-door trial in Bandung district court, West Java province of Indonesia, facing criminal charges including those filed under a 2008 anti-pornography law.
Outside the court there were over 500 police on hand to ensure security, as well as Ariel fans mixed and radical Islamists.
“There are so many cases like this, why are they freed and not Ariel? Is it because he’s famous? We want justice,” 22-year-old waitress Ruri Astari said, as other fans sang Ariel’s hits and carried “Free Ariel” banners.
Islamic hardliner Hirman Firdaus said the rock singer was a threat to society and deserved the maximum punishment.
“I want him to be severely punished. This is immoral,” he said.
If convicted Ariel could face 12 years in jail and fines of up to six billion rupiah (672,000 dollars), just because he posted two sex tapes online.
But that’s not the worst part, one of the women, Cut Tari, was a married when she made the sex video with Ariel, and people are now fighting to get her stoned to death for adultery. That is so incredibly barbaric, it makes me glad that I live in the US.
I feel for these folks, I mean, they should have known better than to make sex videos when they live in such an awful and strict country, but either way, it’s horrible that they have to go through something so ridiculous all because their country is full of barbaric prudes.
