Asphyxiophilia (also known as autoerotic asphyxia, hypoxyphilia, or breath control play) is a fetish in which the person gets sexually aroused as he or she is slowly deprived of oxygen. While it is classified a paraphilia (or fetish), many doctors consider it a disorder due to how incredibly dangerous and potentially lethal it is.

Various methods are used to achieve the level of oxygen depletion desired, such as a hanging, hands on the neck, suffocation with a plastic bag over the head, gas or volatile solvents, chest compression, drowning and so on.
